Slag-free wire

Metalshield gas-shielded metal-cored wire, introduced by The Lincoln Electric Co. (www.lincolnelectric.com), combines the arc characteristics of MIG with the performance benefits of flux-cored welding. Designed for nearly slag-free deposits in single- or multiple-pass welding applications, the company said Metalshield achieves robust low temperature impact results and can be used in semiautomatic and automatic applications. The company also said the product is good for welding over scale or surface contaminants. Typical applications include mining or other heavy equipment, offshore and general structural fabrication.

Tubular rod manufacturing with proprietary metal-cored fill adds value with increased productivity and consistent welding performance. This combination leads to better wash-in, higher quality beads, less spatter, reduced downtime for cleaning, higher travel speeds and increased tolerance on mill scale over standard MIG wire.
