IPG Photonics Corp. (www.ipgphotonics.com), a developer of high-power fiber lasers and amplifiers, said that its German subsidiary, IPG Laser GmbH, received a large order for multi-Kw, continuous wave ytterbium fiber laser systems totaling 63 kW in power from the BMW Group in Munich, Germany.

The high-power fiber lasers will be used to weld automotive doors in the new production line at BMW Group.

IPG said the contract represents the first large-scale production use of fiber laser systems for the German automobile maker.
